Eru Potaka-Dewes dies

Ngati Porou religious leader and activist the Rev. Eru Potaka-Dewes died yesterday, aged 70. He was Dean of Theology at the Maori Anglican Theological College in Rotorua. As an actor, he was best known for his roles in Jane Campion’s The Piano and Kevin Costner’s debacle Rapa Nui, but is at his best as Old Gobbo in The Maori Merchant of Venice.
